Born as the heir to the Sumuri realm, Akira was once the pride and joy of House Oshima. Anything he wanted was his and he was lucky to have a family who loved him deeply. The wealth, the luxury and attention- it's all part of a life he can't even remember now. He's been living a much more modest life as Song Jae-ha, one of the serving boys under House Khan. He was taken into service ever since he was found washed up on the shores of Aevon after an unfortunate accident which separated him from his mother. Unbeknownst to him, he has been used as a leverage against House Oshima countless times. He has worked hard all his life within the palace and has never suspected of being anything more than a very fortunate servant to the crown. He has never been allowed to go beyond the innermost sector of the capital, and as a merman he is limited to the pool in his room- earning him the nickname of "The Palace Goldfish". He now works as the personal servant of Empress Aliyah.

»»————- ♡ ————-«« The dresses hadn't stopped coming out for the past half an hour. And Jae-ha stared at each addition like it was an alien garment. There was definitely something different about it from the last one, but Jae-ha couldn't quite pinpoint what it was. For all the useless terms that the seamstresses were throwing at him, he didn't quite understand how you were supposed to fit into all these layers and exactly what all the flappy bits and laces were supposed to do. And despite raising their voices at him so he could hear better, he understood the seamstresses no better than he did when he first walked into the shop. Why was it so hard to choose a dress? He just wanted something to make Aliyah look pretty for her party. Did she need flappy things to fit in with everyone else? Or will they just make her annoyed? Is there something different about that shade of green that will clash with something else?
If he had only been thinking about his friend- he would have brought her a pair of leggings and a nice top to match. Though he had a sinking feeling that one of the council members wouldn't be impressed with Aliyah if she wore something like that to her 16th birthday celebration. So that left him with an endless mound of dresses to choose between. And if none of the options were ideal for his Empress, what was the next best choice? He was no Aoi Mizushima when it came to fashion... or actually, he didn't really compare on any level... but he tried to put himself in his mentor's shoes- which dress would Aoi wear out of these?"Nothing over the top.... but something elegant... something sophisticated and stylish...." He mumbled to himself as he began picking out the dresses closest to him that fit the criteria. He made sure the dresses seemed to have enough space for Aliyah to move comfortably, so she wasn't too uncomfortable... but he still wasn't really sure what he was doing. He got to about 8 when he couldn't really see over the top of the mound and he was struggling to hold everything up without stepping on any of the long, droopy part of the dresses. If he remembered rightly, the princess should be back in her room about now. Hopefully Jae-ha could catch her before her schedule was filled up with something more. He knew the quickest way back to the Empress' room from anywhere within the gold sector after working by her side for years now. He handed over the money for the dresses, and made a straight line for the palace at an awkward half-walk half-run. He semi-successfully manage to dodge through the ocean of people pushing in and out of the palace, carrying all sorts for the preparation of the Empress' birthday. It was a grand affair that demanded all of the Household to be working at their very best. Which Jae-ha would be happy to do, if he wasn't getting more beat up now just moving around the palace than he ever had been when he attended sword-fighting class. This time he was lucky; he managed to escape the crowded hall with just a few elbows to the face and almost tripping twice, just keeping his balance.
Eventually he reached the haven that was Aliyah's room. He slammed the door behind him, happy to rid himself of the noise and commotion for just a short while. "Your Highness?" he called out, standing awkwardly by the door as he awaited a response. He moved to place the dresses he had chosen side by side on the bed so she could pick between them. "I bought some dresses from the dressmaker's. There's thousands more if you don't like these ones... I can always return them if you don't like them. You are the Empress after all and what you say goes. I didn't really understand how you were supposed to wear most of them so I just picked-" He paused, turning to look for Aliyah but seeing nobody there."Empress Khan?"...."Aliyah?" He called out, awaiting a response.

Song Jae-ha I'm so sorry for taking forever to reply but here it finally is! ► Aliyah lets out a silent sigh as she walked down the long hallway. She crossed her arms over her chest as she came upon her bedroom door. She had finally finished most of her empress duties for the day. All she wanted was to hide in her room till the day was finally over but it never worked out the way she wanted it to. She closed her door behind her and walked over to her bed and plopped down on it and lays on her back staring at the top of her canopy bed with a sigh. As she lays there thinking for a moment she realized that her best friend would be here any minute with some dresses for her to try.
She jumped up from her bed and made her way into the bathroom. She spots the maids and gives them a look telling them to leave. She is always having people help her nonstop everyday and she hated it. She has her own hands and feet to do everything she has to. She stripped her clothes off an got into the waiting water. She lays back relaxing for a moment as she soaked in the water. She closed her eyes just as she heard her door close and her eyes snapped open.
She heard the voice of her best friend "I'm in the bathroom, I'll be out in a moment" she yelled into her room as she finished washing everything. She stood up and stepped out of the tub grabbing her towel. Drying off, she grabbed her rode and put it on. She walked out of the bathroom as she ties her robe. She smiled at her best friend and looked at the dresses on her bed "great more dresses" she muttered to herself "why is my birthday tomorrow" she says with a sigh.

»»————- ♡ ————- «« As the door behind him opened behind Jae-ha, relief washed over the servant and he gave Aliyah a soft smile. "Ah there you are! I was worried you might have run away before tomorrow comes." He jested as he quickly moved over the to the dresses on the bed, folding them with a little more care.
"Why is my birthday tomorrow?" "Well it's been on the same day for the past fifteen years so I'm starting to detect a pattern-" Jae-ha started, though looking at Aliyah's face, maybe now wasn't the best time to mess around. Even when there was a lighter atmosphere, Jae-ha's remarks often earned him a slap for his terrible sense of humour.
She looked at the dress with a look of disdain and Jae-ha felt a pang of guilt that he hadn't been able to make her feel a little better about tomorrow by at least picking out something that didn't make her pull a face. He knew she wasn't keen on dresses to start with- but neither had he worked particularly hard to find the best dresses for her. Wanting nothing more than to give her some form of comfort, he bounced up to her to give her a big hug (hugs after all, were the best remedy for most things).
He stopped not a second too soon- his ears flushed a violent red and he immediately pulled away from Aliyah- having completely forgotten that Aliyah was just in a bath robe...
"I am so so sorry- I c-completely forgot about that. I just wanted to make you feel a bit better I didn't mean to- umm... you know...." Jae-ha diverted his gaze, hardly able to look at Aliyah out of embarrassment. If one of the heads of the household had seen what he had just done- he wouldn't be getting away with this without several bruises. His eyes suddenly snapped up to Aliyah. "I'm really really reaaaaally sorry, just promise you won't tell the heads of the household and I'll do whatever you want for 3 days.." He pleaded. It was the standard deal many of the serving boys and girls made when they needed to persuade someone else to keep quiet... Jae-ha wasn't quite sure if it worked the same way with the Empress but it was worth a shot. She coudl always demand something else in return anyway.
The heat in Jae-ha's cheeks started to simmer down and he returned his attention to the dresses. "If you don't like the dresses- I'll go back and get something better. I tried to pick something that was easy to wear and nice to look at but honestly I had no idea what they were talking about the whole time I was at the dress-makers... so I sort of gave up halfway... I'm sorry." He half-said, half-mumbled like a child confessing his crimes.
"I'm especially sorry since you seem to have a lot on your mind and I don't feel I'm making anything any easier for you now." He sat on the corner of free space on Aliyah's bed, being careful not to squash any dresses, and he patted a spot for her to sit down as well. "But if you want to talk while we both have a few minutes to ourselves, you know you can tell me anything and I'll always be here for you no matter what, right?" He said flashing one of his bright gummy smiles at her. He was certain he wasn't allowed to talk this close to Aliyah and he was in big trouble if someone did walk in on them now- but this was something he felt Aliyah needed as much as anyone else did. Empress or not, they were all only mortal- and a problem shared is a problem halved.

► Aliyah gave him a playful blank look with a sigh "yes, I know that but still" she mutters once again. She looked over the dress trying to figure out which one looked like the less annoying one to wear tomorrow at her birthday party. She had her hands placed on her hips thinking when she felt arms wrap around her. She had to admit it was nice to have a true friend within the palace. As she was about wrap her arms around him, he pulled away. She hid the look of disappointment on her face as she looked over at him. She couldn't help but let out a small laugh as she saw his bright red ears.
"Jae-Ha relax, it's fine" she told him with a small smile "i'm not mad at you, it happens" she explained to him honestly as she tightens her rode and wrapped her arms around herself. She knew if anyone found out about this, he could get in a lot of trouble and she couldn't have that. He was a very important person in her life and she needed to make sure he was safe. "I promise it's fine and I won't tell anyone." she explained again as she looked at the dresses once more as she tapped her chin. She picked up a pink and white dress that seemed simple yet elegant like she wanted.
She walked over to her large mirror and placed the dress in front of her as she imagined herself in it. She turned back to him and gave him a look "I think you did a good job at finding a dress because everyone else would have chose something extravagant and really annoying to wear." she told him with a giggle.
Aliyah watched him sit down on the edge of her bed and she looked at him. She looked at the floor with a blank look at she listened to him talk. She knew she never had time to talk about how she really felt when it came to the life she was placed into. She looked up and walked over to the bed. She placed the dress down with the other ones and she sat beside him and crossed her legs "this is just so hard for me, I just want to be a normal kid but I also want to make my family proud" she says quietly and leaned her head on his shoulder.

»»————- ♡ ————- «« "Jae-Ha relax, it's fine. I'm not mad at you, it happens. I promise it's fine and I won't tell anyone." He buried his face in his hands nevertheless. He very nearly almost-.The thought was almost too much for him to think about.
"It's fine, we're friends. But there's just so much to remember with you being Empress. I don't want to get you in trouble Or give an excuse to say mean things about you. If someone had walked in- Oh my goodness if someone had walked in imagine how much trouble we'd be in?!"
He shut himself up as Aliyah selected a dress. He should calm down. Breathe.
In.
Out.
He felt the flush fade from his face and he used his hand to fan himself and hurry the process.
Once he had calmed down, his eyes wandered over to where Aliyah stood with one of the dresses held up against her. It was one of the pink ones. The colours seemed to look nice on her. They were the colours of the family flower, a pink rose. It looked comfortable enough- Jae-ha wasn't sure he could comment on the how stylish or fashionable they were however.
Not that it mattered particularly to him. He couldn't hold back a very proud smile as her expression brightened at the sight of herself. He had picked that and somehow had done well despite having no understanding of what was going on at the shop. He had made Aliyah happy... and that's all he really wanted.
"I think you did a good job at finding a dress because everyone else would have chose something extravagant and really annoying to wear." "Didn't I just? There were all these other dresses and they were so tight around the waist or way too long or they had so many parts that I just knew were going to get in the way. Everything looks good on you anyway so whatever you makes you feel best is what I was trying to find." He gave himself a pat on the back "I mean where else are you going to find a right-hand man like me?" He said, maybe getting a little ahead of himself. But he allowed himself to milk the situation- most of his general chores weren't as rewarding and if he was lucky, the best reaction he might get from the heads of the Household was a grunt of acknowledgment.
He shifted as Aliyah came to sit beside him so there was more space for her without squashing the dresses.
"This is just so hard for me, I just want to be a normal kid but I also want to make my family proud" Jae-ha softened as she told him her struggles. He felt sorry for her, he really did. She didn't deserve all of this- she shouldn't have to be in this position until she was older and ready to lead. As she leaned her head on him, he adjusted his position so it was more comfortable for her. He wrapped his arm around her,not shying away and giving her a comforting squeeze.
"I know it's hard for you. I'm so proud of all that you've done so far. Just hold on in there and I promise things will get easier. I may not be big or strong but no matter what happens, I'll protect you from anything bad that's out to get you. I'll be like your guardian fish."
He didn't say anything else, letting Aliyah collect her thoughts and feelings and answering in her own time.

► Aliyah couldn't help the small laugh that escaped her lips as she listened to him rambling on about the mistaken hug. She rolled her eyes to herself as she looked in the mirror admiring the elegant but comfy dress. Before she had made her way over to the bed she couldn't help but imagine herself being the empress everyone wanted her to be. As she looked in the mirror her mind drift as she saw her father standing behind her small figure. She missed her father more than anything anyone could ever miss. She brought from her thoughts as she heard Jae-ha speaking once more.
She turned her body to fully face him as she listened, she couldn't help the small blush that crept up her cheeks as she heard him say she looked good in everything. No one was ever kind enough to say that honestly. Everyone was always saying she looked nice but you could tell they weren't saying it honestly. She felt a grin spread across her face as she looked at him "that's the honest truth, how did I get so lucky to get my best friend as the person to help take care of my needs" she says to him.
After Aliyah had sat down beside her best friend and started to admit things to him she couldn't help all the feelings she felt wash over her. As she felt his arm wrap around her she couldn't get lean in more to him as she felt his warmth. Something about being here with him always helped her relax and open to her real feelings and not the hard exterior she has to put up when she is being the young empress. She smiled up at him as she listened to him speak "at least I know there is someone who believes in me unlike all of Hanami." she told him with a sigh.
She felt all alone other than having Jae-ha, no one believed in her or her being the empress. They think she is to young and will make the wrong choices and destroy Hanami more than it already is. She didn't know what to do anymore seeing as she was making choice by herself and not know the basic choices to make. She knew if her father were here, he would be right there with her the entire time helping her do things right. She closed her eyes as she had many things passing through her head.

»»————- ♡ ————- «« "That's the honest truth, how did I get so lucky to get my best friend as the person to help take care of my needs""What can I say? Sometimes guardian spirits just happen to wash up on your shore." He teased playfully, knowing deep down that he was a lot luckier to have been found by Avari soldiers than Aliyah was that he was found.
"At least I know there is someone who believes in me unlike all of Hanami." "Ey- don't do this to yourself! You have me but you also have your brother and sister and the council! And I've never heard a bad word against you in the palace so I'm sure the people outside the palace can't be that different. It's just a few people who spread these nasty rumours. But most people like you, I know so. The definitely would if they knew you like I do." He put on his best and brightest smile, in the hopes that the happiness would spread to his friend. It was a tough time for her but he knew that she could deal with it- she was a strong woman (stronger than he had ever been at any rate). She didn't cry as easily as he did, she didn't fall or show weakness in front of others but Jae-ha knew she still suffered like the rest of them. He had been in her service for 8 years, he could pick on these things very well at this stage.
As silence took over. Jae-ha's mind wandered onto something that had been on his mind quite a lot recently. It was true, he had Aliyah all to himself now and it would be the perfect opportunity to ask. A part of him was worried about being rejected, but he was almost sure that Aliyah felt the same way. Should he bring up the topic?
It will be fine. Aliyah will understand....
"Aliyah- I meant to ask. Now that I'm eighteen- we've ummm- well we've known each other for a long time so I'd like to think that you understand me. And I- I was wondering... can I ask you a question? It may sound a bit stupid... but it's been on my mind for a while now." He half-mumbled, looking at his feet and feeling himself get all embarrassed again.
